Changoi tea farm is situated in a area of the Great Rift Valley very close to the equator. Spread over an area of six square miles, the farm at its highest point reaches 6,300 feet, with panoramic views across the region. The climate is ideal for tea growing, with bright sun-filled mornings and rainy afternoons, occasionally punctuated by flashes of lightning and the rumble of thunder overhead. Changoi also remains popular with local wildlife, with colobus monkeys and colourful tropical birds living in the forested areas around the farms.
Kapchorua lies on the eastern slopes of the Nandi hills, at an altitude of close to 7,000 feet and adjacent to the indigenous rainforests of the region. The farm covers a similar area to Changoi, of about six square miles, but is bisected in two by the Timobo River, as it flows down towards Lake Victoria. Teas have been grown at Kapchorua for over 60 years, and are distinctive for their bright strong flavour and golden colour, winning many awards nationally.
Kaimosi is the lowest elevation of our farms at just under 6,000 feet, and covers 3.2 square miles of the North Nandi District of Kenya. Tea planting began here in the 1940’s, and much of the tea harvested today still comes from these mature and established bushes. The area enjoys excellent weather, with an average rainfall of just over 2,000mm, well distributed throughout the year. We use the tea from Kaimosi farm to add thickness and strength to our blends, ideal for breakfast tea.
Our finest teas are grown at Tinderet, our most picturesque tea farm, nestling at 7,500 feet above the Great Rift Valley, and surrounded by miles of indigenous forests. Tinderet is home to over 3,000 people, including the farm workers and their families, who take pride in the quality of the teas they have been harvesting since the early 1950’s. Tea from Tinderet is used in our finest speciality teas, delivering exceptional flavours and a delightful golden colour.
